30 Days To Finding and Keeping Sassy Sidekicks and BFFs by Cleo Hantman

Should this be nominated for Teens' Top Ten? No
Opinion on the Cover: The cover is very bright and eye-catching
What was the most compelling aspect? this book has a quirky sense of humor that keeps you reading, even if you wanted to put it down.
Rating? 3 Readable
Annotation: 30 days to finding and keeping sassy sidekicks and BFFs is just that; a handy field guide for girl that have friendship issues. And let's face it, we all do. This simple 176 page book covers everything a friendship goes through, from meeting new people, to learning how to get away from bad friends, and the infamous boy triangles that often come up. Clea Hantman speaks from personal experiance with a fresh and fun wit. She even gives you songs for the day! (And let me tell you, most of them rock!) In short, there are thirty little exercises you can do with and for your friends to strengthen friendships and make new ones. I liked this book because, unlike many self-help (and no, I wouldn't call this a self help book) the Author doesn't write in a condesending way. I recommend this book for any girl, any age. --Hope, 14

Should this be nominated for Teens' Top Ten? Yes. The fast moving plot, engrossing characters, intricate machines, and two entirely new societies would be reason enough. But throw in Thompson's illustrations, and you have a winner.

Rating? 5 Hard to imagine a better book

Europe is on the brink of what is sure to be a devestating war between the Darwinists, and their fabricated creatures, and the Clankers, and their intricate machines. Leviathan follows the adventures of Deryn, a Darwinist airman, and Alek, the Clanker Prince of Austria-Hungary, and the ship that brings them together, the Leviathan. I really loved this book, a fast-moving plot, engrossing characters, and the great descriptions of the beasties and machines drew me into the story right away. I couldn't get back out again. Anyone who likes steam-punk will love this, as will anyone who likes alternate histories. I can't wait for the next installment in the series, I want to know what happens next! Bistro Book Club

Should this be nominated for Teens' Top Ten? Yes. Cause it's Scott Westerfeld and steampunk melded together into a beautiful book.
Opinion on the Cover: Very very good cover. You can tell that the illustrator actually read the book.
What was the most compelling aspect? Mostly that it wasn't steampunk in the original sense, and also that I wouldn't have recognized that it was Scott Westerfeld if his name hadn't been on the cover.
Rating? 5 Hard to imagine a better book
I know you can't nominate it until next year, but please do it then! Normally, I don't like Scott Westerfeld all that much. 2 or 3 of his books I like, the rest, not so much. But I can confidently say that I have fallen in love with Leviathan.
Annotation: There are 2 types of people in Europe in 1914. Clankers and Darwinists. Clankers have huge machines to work for them, while good old Charles Darwin figured out how to manipulate genes. So now the Darwinists have airships that are made not of metal and cloth but of whales, bees, and birds. Prince Aleksander of Austria's parents are murdered, setting the spark to the powder keg that is pre World War I Europe. He is now forced to go on the run since his own government despises him for his mother's common blood and his father's love of peace. However he is lucky enough to live in the half of Europe where the Clankers live. So his father's faithful men begin to take Aleksander on the dangerous trip to Switzerland in a battle walker (picture the walkers in Star Wars, except 10 times faster and cooler) Deryn Sharp is a girl determined to work on an airship. But of course the British Air Service won't allow girls, so she performs the age old trick of disguising as a boy. But when the airship Leviathan is drawn into the mess of World War I, will she be able to save the ship from certain ruin? A wonderful contribution to steampunk, I eagerly anticipate the next installment. Be forewarned however; this book is not for the squeamish.
